Starting in the winter semester of 2009, the University of Aalen will offer a new bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering/product development and simulation. In addition to covering the basics of a normal mechanical engineering degree, the program will include the aesthetic aspects of modern product development and concepts relating to product design. The university is well equipped to offer the new degree: rather than constructing prototypes on a work bench, students will have the opportunity to conceptualize ideas using 3-D modelling software, which can be projected onto a 3-D wall for presentation and examination. The program is open to 70 new students per year, and courses will be offered during the summer semesters. The application deadline for the first semester of the program (Winter 09/10) is July 15, 2009.
